What this finder lists
Shops, not restaurants. The Quran asks believers to eat what is lawful and good (Quran 2:168). This finder lists the butchers, grocers, supermarkets, delis and frozen-food shops that OpenStreetMap’s volunteers have tagged as selling halal, only halal or alongside other food (Quran 2:168). For restaurants and takeaways, see Find Halal Restaurants.
See where you can give, country by country, with every pound shown. Some charities say every pound reaches the cause: see what a 100% donation policy means.
What a tag means, and doesn’t
Self-reported, not certified. A mapper records what a shop displays or says; nobody inspects it, and a tag can go out of date. We don’t check, certify or rank anyone, and nobody pays to be listed.
Ask before you buy. A few questions at the counter take a minute and tell you far more than any map can: our page on what to ask lists them.
Few shops near you?
The map is still growing. Many butchers and grocers aren’t tagged yet, especially outside London. “Near me” shows what is mapped around you today, and anyone can add a missing shop in a few minutes, as the card above explains.
Halal near me: questions people ask
Is every shop here certified?
No. Shops are listed because they are tagged on OpenStreetMap, which is self-reported. Ask the butcher about the slaughter, the supplier and any certificate (Quran 5:3 lists what is forbidden).
What is the difference between “only halal” and “sells halal”?
“Only halal” means the mapper recorded that everything sold is halal; “sells halal” means some of it is. Either way, check with the shop (Quran 2:168).
Why does my city have no page?
A city gets its own list once five or more shops are tagged on the map. “Near me” works everywhere, and every shop someone adds shows up there straight away.
